Description

The lower panel of the right door of the lectionary depicts Moses in front of a copper figure of a serpent, which he made at God's request, and looking at which he healed the Israelites shown in the depths of the painting, bitten by snakes for their lack of gratitude towards God. This is a reference to St John's gospel "And as Moses exalted the serpent in the wilderness, so it is necessary that the Son of Man be exalted, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life." [J 3, 13-17]
