The polychrome “Jacob’s Ladder” from the Grőning (St. Andrew’s) Chapel
- Description
- The polychrome "Jacob's Ladder", which is one of the paintings decorating the Grőning (St Andrew's) Chapel, depicts a scene in which angels descend after a streak of light connecting the tetragram IAHWE with Jacob pouring oil on a stone. The scene illustrated a passage from Luther's Bible "und dieser Stein, den ich aufgerichtet habe zu einem Mal, soll ein Gotteshaus werden" (And the stone which I have set up as a monument shall be a house of God) from I Genesis 28:22.
