Description
The body of St Mary's Church in Krakow is extremely characteristic and blends in perfectly with the buildings of the Main Square, making it one of the most recognisable symbols of the city. There are several factors that explain this perfect harmony and the strong connection between St Mary's Basilica and Krakow: 1) Gothic architecture: St Mary's Church was built in the Gothic style, which is characterised by lofty and slender proportions, pointed windows and details. This style is ideally suited to the aesthetics of the Gothic buildings of the Main Square, including the townhouses with their rich, historic architecture. 2) Two-tower façade: St. Mary's Basilica is distinguished by its two-tower façade, which adds to its majesty and makes it easily recognisable in Krakow's skyline. These two towers are an integral part of the landscape of the Main Square and are part of its architectural composition. 3) Central location: St Mary's Church is located in the heart of the Main Square, making it one of the main landmarks in Krakow. Its central location makes it a natural meeting point, as well as a place from which to admire the beauty of this historic square. 4) Symbolic significance: for centuries, St. Mary's Basilica has acted not only as a temple but also as a symbol of the city of Krakow. It was in its interior that important ceremonies and numerous cultural events took place. It is therefore associated not only with religion, but also with the spirit of the city and its history. 5) Tourist attraction: St. Mary's Basilica is one of the main tourist sites in Krakow, attracting thousands of visitors from all over the world. Its unique shape is often photographed and forms an integral part of the souvenir photos of a visit to Krakow.
