Situation plan of the blockade and siege of Gdańsk in 1813
- Description
- In 1807, after Napoleon's army occupied Gdansk, the monastery was used as a hospital for wounded soldiers. In 1813, as a result of Russian shelling and fire, the monastery was destroyed. In 1835, after the death of the last Dominican, the partially burnt area of the monastery buildings was nationalized. In the years 1839-1840, the remains of the monastery were demolished, and the square was used for military training. In the years 1894-1896, the Market Hall, which exists until today, was built on the square. A Catholic parish was established by the church, whose pastors were exclusively German until the outbreak of war, and in which besides in German, the services were also held in Polish.
