- Description
- In the foreground, there is the inert, dead body of Christ. The Saviour's head is resting on Mary's lap. Christ's body is shown with His chest stretched upwards. Mary, with a youthful face and hands spread out in a gesture of helplessness, is looking at her dead Son. It seems, however, that the Mother is reconciled to her fate. She is portrayed in a white dress with red reflections and a blue cloak. The background is a mountainous landscape with the lower part of the cross and a ladder visible on the rise. In the background, on the right and behind the hill, there is an outline of a town.
