Description
In the foreground, there is the inert, dead body of Christ. The Saviour's head is resting on Mary's lap. Christ's body is shown with His chest stretched upwards. Mary, with a youthful face and hands spread out in a gesture of helplessness, is looking at her dead Son. It seems, however, that the Mother is reconciled to her fate. She is portrayed in a white dress with red reflections and a blue cloak. The background is a mountainous landscape with the lower part of the cross and a ladder visible on the rise. In the background, on the right and behind the hill, there is an outline of a town.
