- The portrait was originally accompanied by the inscription: 'Quamvis non habet cineres Canonia colendos, / Sed Senensis ager mortua membra tegat, / Attamen Hermannum recolit post saecula Doctum, / Ac animo grato respicis illa Patrem'. He did not deposit his members in the monastery, as his body was laid to rest in Siena. The memory of the noble Herman, a respected scholar, grateful hearts go to the Father.
