The glory of heaven
- Description
- The vault in the presbytery depicts the Gloria Celestis, or Glory of Heaven. In the golden glory, the Holy Trinity is painted. Below, in the centre of the composition, the archangel Michael is presented. Clad in armour, with a key in his hand, he knocks down the rebellious angel. On the sides of the Holy Trinity, there are two archangels: Gabriel with a lily, girded with a green ribbon, and Raphael with a travelling staff. The other four archangels are painted on the sides of the archangel Michael: Barachiel is depicted with flowers; Jehudiel appears with a crown in his hand; Uriel is holding a cauldron with glowing flames, and Sealtiel has his hands folded in prayer. On the front of the fresco, there are painted four guardian angels, Daromiel, Tsefoniel, Uriel and Kachniel. The inscription below them reads: Four angels, guardians of the world. A small angel in the space between the windows holds a phylactery with the inscription Gloria in excelsis Deo - Glory to God in the highest. The other angels are playing Baroque musical instruments.
