- Description
- A fundamental change in the interior design of the nave body of St Mary's Church was brought about by the erection of a set of altars by the inter-nave pillars from the foundation of archpriest Jacek Łopacki in the first half of the 18th century. The altars were carved from black Dębnik marble according to a repeated compositional scheme. The generous founder brought them a unique set of easel paintings by one of the most outstanding and respected Venetian painters - Giovanni Battista Pittoni. The altarpiece of St Philip Nereus is surmounted by an interrupted beam with an oval medallion in the middle, housing a painting of St John Cantius. Pittoni's painting depicts a vision of St Philip Nereus.
