Masques – decoration of the first bay of the nave – detail
- Description
- The decoration of the nave bays in the form of masks - the faces of people and the devil - was created in the 14th century during the expansion of the church. In the 1930s, during restoration, they were heavily repainted. They were placed where there are vents in the wall and designed so that these vents form the wide-open mouths of the figures. The faces of a king, a woman in a headdress, a devil, and men with different hairstyles or headdresses appear on the vents.
