Description

In the painting by Piotr J. Brandl, the Saint is surrounded by a group of poor and sick people. This group, to which John Napomucen gives alms, is a contrast to the royal suite which is presented above. In the background there is the Charles Bridge in Prague from which the tied-up Saint was thrown into the Vtlava for rejecting the demands of the king who expected the Saint to break the mystery of confession.
