- Description
- The saint stands in counterpoint (on his right leg) facing the viewer. He raises his right hand, bent at the elbow, in front of him (he held the cross in it), while his left hand is straightened along his side raising his palm upwards.
She has a young face with a large nose, small mouth, strongly defined chin and full cheeks; her hair is up to her neck, slightly curled with a centre parting over a high, wrinkled forehead.
He is dressed in a robe reaching to his bare feet; with a collar, long sleeves with rolled up cuffs; split at the front on the torso and laced with a ribbon. On top of a toga covering the left hand, falling in cascading waves by the left leg and in front of the right, below the elbow of the right hand gathered with a bundle under a sash tied in a bow.
The statue of the saint was originally placed on the spot now occupied by St Matthew.
