- In the centre of the relief, the emperor thrones under a canopy on a platform covered with a carpets. He is accompanied by St Norbert (left) and St Bernard of Clairvaux (right) seated to the sides in the foreground, shown in profile.
Lothar III has shoulder-length curly hair, a beard and moustache, and an imperial crown on his head. He is dressed in half-armour worn over a knee-length robe, a long hood covering his shoulders and fastened at the chest, and high boots. In his right hand he holds a sword, pointing upwards, while his left hand is placed on a ball resting on his knee topped with a cross.
The conical, gargoyle-shaped canopy, edged with tassels, is supported by two cup-shaped columns connected by an arcade. St Norbert, wearing a habit with mozetta and biretta, extends his right hand in front of him. His armchair has volute legs and backrest, and floral decoration and tassels on the side.
Relief based on Th.Galle's engraving no.31 from the 'Vita S.Norberti', a book annotated and published by Ch. van der Sterre in Antwerp in 1622.
