- Description
- In the centre of the representation stands Lothar III with a mace in his left hand and an imperial crown on his head. He is dressed in scaly half-armour, an ermine cloak covering his chest and decorative knee-high boots. To the sides: visible in profile St Norbert in habit and hat extending his right hand in front of him, and the pope, his back turned, wearing a ceremonial Roman cope and tiara. Behind the saint's back, profile of a bearded bishop.
In the lower corners of the composition, two moustachioed soldiers are shown in bust, facing each other; on their heads they wear helmets decorated with mascarons and hold halberds in front of them. In the background can be seen the heads of the gathered crowd: two men shown from behind wearing hats, one in profile without a headdress and a large number of bishops as evidenced by the rows of infulae.
In the background - on the axis - the column of the arcade situated on the right, under which pennants fly. To the left - the heads of three soldiers of the papal guard in helmets, with pennants above them.
Relief based on Th.Galle's engraving no.30 from the 'Vita S. Norberti', a book annotated and published by Ch. van der Sterre in Antwerp in 1622.
