- The portrait was originally accompanied by the inscription: 'Dux civisque minis terrent, fratresque viginti / Et ter mille alios pestis in urbe necat. / Fata sinistra gemit, pressus moerore, mania / Abbas, qui inflicto vulnere fata subit". The prince and the townspeople severely intimidated him. Twenty brothers and three thousand burghers were taken by the plague. From his worries, experienced by his grim fate, he fell into insanity and dealt himself a fatal blow.
