Holy Family
Description
The last fresco on the vault of the nave shows the Holy Family - Jesus, Mary and Joseph. St. Joseph is pictured below, as he was only the earthly guardian of the Saviour. However, the Child is looking and stretching out his arms towards the Carpenter. He draws him to himself and Mary, showing the important role of St. Joseph in the history of salvation. Also in the lunettes are the brothers, St. James the Great (left) and St. John the Evangelist (right). Saint John is holding a chalice with a snake coming out of it - a memento of the attempt to poison the Evangelist with wine. There is also an eagle at his feet.
