Abraham and Isaac
Description
The fresco shows Abraham standing in the centre, offering Isaac. To his left is his bound son, lying and resting his head on a stub. Abraham is wearing an oriental cloth of gold. His wife, Sarah, standing over Isaac, closes her eyes so as not to see her son die. In the background, amidst an idyllic landscape of a meadow, Jacob is herding the sheep of his uncle Laban to marry Rachel. In the darkened depths you can see Jacob's son Judah with his wife Tamar. On the sides, there are lunettes on which King David, playing the harp, and Aaron with a thurible are painted. This has an allegorical meaning, that the coming Messiah will be both priest and king.
