Description
In the foreground, St. Norbert, on the right, kneels in front of the Pope.

The Pope, shown in profile, sits under a canopy on a three-tier platform. In solemn attire, covered with a cape and wearing a papal crown on his head, he gives a blessing with his right hand and a document with his left.

St. Norbert, wearing a monastic habit, cape and mozetta, looking up at the Pope with his right hand, receives the act of approval of the Order, while in his left hand he holds a biretta at his side.

In the lower left-hand corner of the composition, the clergyman indicates the event with his right hand. He is seated on a throne with a volute-finished backrest, wearing a long robe and a biretta on his head. Behind the pope's back a servant can be seen in bust holding a papal cross. To the right in the depths are four men: a bishop and a cardinal en face and two monks shown in profile. In the background, three guards in armour and with halberds stand on the gallery.

Relief based on Th.Galle's engraving no.23 from 'Vita S. Norberti' a book annotated and published by Ch. van der Sterre in Antwerp in 1622.
